Top 5 europe trips for 2024
As we approach the turn of the year, it is time to set our sights on the exciting travel possibilities that 2024 holds. As a European, I have explored my fair share of European cities in the last 24 years. Today I will share with you my favourites. Which European cities should be on your must-visit list for 2024? Read along to find out!
Copenhagen
Kicking off the list is Copenhagen. I visited Copenhagen in February 2023 on a solo trip and it really surprised me. Despite the cold, I had mostly sunny days and greatly enjoyed my time exploring the city. Copenhagen is full of interesting museums and galleries to visit, lots of stores with beautifully designed pieces and tons of green throughout the city. Besides that, the culinary scene, especially seafood, is exceptional and the city is not too crowded which makes it a great visit. I was there on a solo trip for 5 days and I did not feel unsafe for even a second, so a great recommendation for solo travelers as well!
Barcelona
Barcelona, the city that truly made me fall in love with Spain. This city holds a special place in my heart, as I actually lived here for 6 months while I was doing my graduation internship. But even after those 6 months, I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of what this city has to offer. There is so much to see and do here, the city is always lively and vibrant. Learn a few sentences in Spanish to experience the locals’ friendliness and savour all the food you come across. Spanish cuisine is one of my favourites ever and even after half a year I don’t think I’ve had enough tapas, paella and bocadillas de jamon. If you get tired of the city, it’s right by the beach (although a recommend going to a nearby town for cleaner water and less people). The weather is nice year round and if you like a good party, man Barcelona is the place to go. As you can see I have more than enough good things to say about this city, you should probably just book that ticket :) (I did too, I’m going back for a few days in February!)
Florence
From the ever-growing list of Italian destinations, Florence stands out as my top recommendation. If you appreciate beautiful architecture, tons of history, art and amaaaaaazing food, you’re going to like this one. Florence truly feels like you’ve stepped a few centuries back in time. It’s classical, it’s timeless and it’s a must visit on any trip to Italy. I’ve been here twice now and I would go again in a heartbeat. However, I would make sure to avoid the peak tourist season in July/August. Around that time the city will be very full of people and temperatures will be sky high. I think next time I’m going to visit will be in the spring! Besides, if you have the time, make sure to explore the region surrounding the city for an added dose of beauty!
Vienna
I visited Vienna a few years ago as a part of my Interrail itinerary. For those who don’t know, Interrail is a company that allows you to buy a train ticket to travel all throughout Europe. Vienna was stop 3 out of 6 on my list and me and my friend planned to spend 3 nights there. However, 2 days of our time were spent in the hospital because my friend got very sick. In the other 1,5 day we tried to explore the city as much as possible and I immediately fell in love. There is jaw dropping architecture around every corner, great food and the cutest stores everywhere. And my personal favourite, so many museums, theatres and concert halls that you probably wouldn’t be able to visit them all in a lifetime. Unfortunately, after our 1,5 day it was time for us to take the train to Rome already but ever since that visit I have been wanting to come back to explore more. On my last trip I was there during summer time, but I think next time I would like to go around Christmas time. I’ve seen the most magical videos of this city in the snow and all its Christmas glory and I want to experience it.
Budapest
Last but certainly not least, except in prices! If you’re looking for a more budget friendly city trip, Budapest is an amazing choice. This city truly has a bit of everything. It has a super interesting history and tons of museums. Most street are full of cute architecture and the main sights are absolutely beautiful. There’s enough nature to enjoy and you can relax in the amazing thermal baths. If that was not enough, food is incredibly cheap here and the nightlife is absolutely insane. I truly can’t think of anything I did not like when I visited this city. One more plus, since it’s a bit less popular then Western Europe, you can easily visit in summer and not be trampled by other tourists!
I hope this blog post sparks inspiration for your 2024 travels! These cities hold a special place in my heart and I’ve cherished every moment spent exploring them. Let me know in the comments: 1.
