the freelance diaries: 6 month update
I’m starting a ‘normal’ job again in a few weeks… How’s that for a 6-month update hahaha?! But not to worry, World of Writings is not going anywhere. It’s just going to be a more part-time thing for now. How and why you ask? Let’s get into it!
I decided to start WorldofWritings in October of 2023. I was very fortunate to have the support of my friends and family, who wanted to support me mentally and financially in the first few months of building my business. Quickly, I started to fall in love with life as a freelancer. I was so happy to have the freedom to decide how I would schedule my days, to be able to take a break and go outside in the afternoon, to not have the stress of anyone else’s expectations anymore. Besides that, I was good at it! Even though I had all this freedom I willingly got up early and had the motivation and dedication to do my work and do it well. I had a few really fun clients (who you can check out in my portfolio) and was having the time of my life. However, at some point I ran into a big bump in the road towards my dream of a life as a freelancer. Slowly but surely, my positive attitude was being crushed by one single phrase:
“you are great, but we have found someone with more experience…”
This was what I heard after almost every single job interview. Understandably, I got frustrated because: how could I ever gain experience if no one would give me the chance to do so? A struggle I’m sure a lot of you can relate to. While I had a few clients and was working on fun assignments continuously, it was not enough and it was not increasing.
So, I knew I had to make a decision. And what do you do if everyone tells you that you do not have enough experience? You get frustrated, you try to find other ways to make it work, you cry a little bit and then you accept that the way to your dream has to be rerouted. And believe me when I tell you, that is okay! Even though you route is different, the destination is still the same. You have to remind yourself that the fact that your plan is not working out like you planned, does not mean the goal is unreachable.
So, what’s next?
Next week I will be starting my new job as a content marketeer. While it was a though decision, I am actually so excited! I have missed working with colleagues, I am eager to learn new things and gain the experience I need. I will be working for an online LMS and I will get the opportunity to use this LMS for all the trainings and courses I could ever want!
Besides this, I will have 1 day a week left to work for clients of WorldofWritings. I love that I can combine these two things and implement all the new things I will learn directly into my work with my clients.
Long story short, while this is not exactly the way I had planned for things to go, I’m okay and I am extremely certain that this is the best thing I can do for WorldofWritings right now! I’m really excited to get started with my job and work hard for the ultimate goal of working full time on WorldofWritings. In the meantime, I will keep you all updated on my experiences, I will keep writing blogs and I will keep working on growing my business and I will reach my goals, whatever it takes!
Thank you for supporting my business over the last few months! I’m curious, what do you want to read on here? Do you want me to share more about freelancing? Let me know in the comments!
