Welcome to world of writings

Hi there!

With my first ever blog post I would like to officially welcome you to World of Writings! My little corner of the internet destined for all my creative outlets. For my brand, I feel that personal connection with clients is very important. But personal connection goes two ways and so this blog post serves as an opportunity to introduce myself, unravel the journey that led me into freelancing and how becoming a freelance copywriter has been so far. Let’s dive in!

Who am I?

A very loaded question to begin with. Luckily, both you and I do not have to know the full answer to that one. But I do have two options for a partial answer, let’s start with the professional one.
Hi! My name is Danique, I was born and raised in the Netherlands and I am now 24 years old. After high school I decided to start studying International Business and Management and last year I obtained my bachelor in this degree. My academic journey included enriching internships in marketing and communication on foreign shores. Besides work and study I love music, reading and travel.

And now the less professional but probably more intriguing answer:
Hello there! My name is Danique, but everyone calls me Daan. I have a business degree but have recently discovered that I do not want to pursue an office job in business so I’m in a bit of a quarter-life crisis trying to figure out what to do now. I love doing anything creative but especially music and writing. Fun fact: I play 4 instruments and I started a library with self-written books in my classroom when I was only 10 years old. I am spontaneous, impulsive, a dreamer and a wanderer. I love exploring new places and it is my dream to be able to work and travel at the same time. I would describe myself as kind and loving, but at the same time feel like I can be a bit egotistical sometimes. I am funny, a bit insecure and have a knack for going with the flow (though I'm surprisingly decent at planning, go figure!).

All of this to say, I am so much more than the standard corporate version I gave you first. That is one of the main reasons I decided that I wanted to freelance instead of having an office job. I realized that my true self couldn't thrive in a conventional job, and I yearned for authenticity and connection in my work.

Why freelancing?

Freelancing is undeniably not a one-size-fits-all endeavour. It sounds great, but there’s a lot more that comes with the job than just… the job. But to me, the pro’s outweigh the con’s. As mentioned before, one of my biggest dreams is to be able to work and travel at the same time. That is easiest when freelancing. Besides that, the autonomy to choose projects and craft a flexible schedule aligns perfectly with my aspirations. So I always knew that this was the step I would eventually want to make. However, when the budget constraints at my previous job put my employment in jeopardy, I decided to seize the opportunity and take the plunge a few years ahead of schedule!

Soooo… how you doing?

Honestly, it’s been a rollercoaster ride. Because besides the loss of my job, I had to deal with going into a new field with no one to tell me how it works or what to do. Days were dedicated to deciphering tax codes and researching the intricacies of freelancing. Half the time I am doubting my choice and wondering what I started. Luckily, there is a silver-lining! Every time I picture the endless possibilities that lie ahead, my excitement skyrockets. I am looking for clients and my enthusiasm rises every day. Plus, writing this blog post? Pure joy from start to finish. Making your dreams come true can be so scary and make you doubt yourself, but every time I feel a smile creeping on my face while working on my business, I know I have made the right choice.
